Stoke Bliss and Kyre, like most of the communities around here has been in existence for many centuries. It is recorded in the Domesday book and there is evidence or an Iron Age settlement at Garmsley Hill Camp.
The churches in the village also pre-date Norman times. St Marys in Kyre has the remains of a Saxon apse under the eastern end and St Peters in Stoke Bliss is on an oval site surrounded by streams. So both probably indicate that they were built on existing sacred sites.
If you are interested in the history of the parishes then local resident, Maggie Kingston, has written two fascinating books - The History of Kyre Manor and Church and The History of Stoke Bliss, Kyre Parva Manors and Church. The books are available from the Food for All in Bromyard or Tenbury Tourism Office. Alternatively contact Maggie directly - mdk46@phonecoop.coop.
